It was about 02:10 a.m. Wednesday Sept. 1st, 2004 when I woke up from the fire siren. What was I to think, that thing goes off all the time, every time someone sets off the fire alarm at the senior center from cooking on the stove. But I was thinking, why are they up this late at night? They go to bed early. Or maybe they're just getting up early. But anyway thats besides the point. I didn't know what was going on at the time but when I got up the next day my mother and grand mother where talking about Laughing Brook burning down. For a few days we did not know how it happend, we all thought it was arson. It had not been used for two years, I think they said. Friday came and my mother and father told me they heard on the news one of the Hampden police is a suspect.
A week later now September 8th, 2004. The Hampden Wilbraham Tmes came out with the story. (ABOUT TIME) The Times Paper Came Out On The Same Day Of The Fire...The Times News Paper Sed They had 11 Fire Trucks on the seen trying to put out the fire. They where from Hampden, Wilbraham, Monson and Somers Connecticut. The Officer who set the fire to the Laughing Brook Building used a gasoline can to start the fire. He is being held without bail in the Hampshire County Jail. They Don't want him to be put into the Hampden County Jail.
The Hampden Police Depertment has been told to look out for any signs in other coworkers.
They Dont Want any other officer to try to pull another stunt like this. Well, Like The Fire. The Police Said he did not give off any signs that he would commit a crime like this. Derek worked with the Hampden Police for about three years. Well, not quite three years.
